3/12/2010: Buntrock performs as Fredrik
-
Stephen performed the lead role of Fredrik in A Little Night Music opposite Catherine Zeta Jones' Desiree for the first time on Thurs March 11 2010. He also is performing the role right now, on Fri March 12, and he is set to go on all of next week during Alexander Hanson's vacation.

11/4/2009: A Little (More) Night Music

Stephen will be back on Broadway when the star studded A Little Night Music revival begins performances Nov. 24, 2009. Stephen will be part of the Quintet ensemble and will also cover the leading role of "Fredrik."

2/14/2009: A Little Night Music

Stephen will be performing the role of Count Carl-Magnus in A Little Night Music at the White Plains Performing Arts Center in White Plains, NY. Performances are scheduled for March 9-22, 2009 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings with matinees on Fridays and Sundays.

9/11/2008: Return To Grease

On September 9, Stephen returned to the role of "Teen Angel" in the Broadway production of Grease.

6/28/2008: Julie Andrews' The Gift of Music
-
Stephen's next project will be a series of concerts with Julie Andrews entitled, "Julie Andrews' The Gift of Music". Performances are scheduled for Louisville (11 July), LA (18-19 July), Atlanta (2 Aug) and Philadelphia (7 Aug).

The first half of the concert is supposed to consist of songs by Rodgers and Hammerstein, while the second half will feature a new adapatation of Ms. Andrews' book, Simeon's Gift.

5/31/2008: Leaving Grease

Stephen will be leaving the Broadway production of Grease on June 5.

7/25/2007: Grease

Stephen is currently starring as the "Teen Angel" in the Broadway revival of Grease.

More information will be added soon. Please keep in mind that this is an unofficial site run in my spare time. I don't always have time to update, but there is a Contact form that I can answer if anyone has any questions. Official sources from Beauty and the Beast, such as their website and press releases, still list Stephen in the cast so that made it more difficult to properly update for his departure.

Stephen will grace the Broadway stage in another leading role when he starts performances as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast on Dec 26.

8/2/2005: Phantom/ Raoul Performances
-
During Hugh Panaro's vacation, Stephen is scheduled to perform the role of Phantom in the Broadway production on Aug 4-6, Aug 8, and Aug 12-13. He will also be performing the role of Raoul when current Raoul Tim Martin Gleason takes his turn filling in as the Phantom on Aug 9-11.

7/12/2005: Curtains

According to Playbill Online, Stephen is participating in the workshop of the musical Curtains which will culminate in a private reading on July 15. Curtains is a murder mystery with music by Kander and Ebb and a libretto by Peter Stone.

Also, Stephen has returned to the Broadway production of Phantom after a successful run in Finian's Rainbow.

5/22/2005: Finian's Rainbow / Phantom

Stephen will be performing the role of Woody in Finian's Rainbow at Westport County Playhouse in Ct. from June 16- July 2. The production also stars Malcolm Gets and Melissa Errico. For more information, you can contact the box office by calling 203-227-4177. Tickets can also be purchased online.

Recently, Stephen has been covering in the Broadway production of Phantom.

3/14/2005: Small Update

Stephen returned to the Phantom tour to perform the title role in Ft. Myers, FL from 2/18 through 2/20. The regular Phantom, Gary Mauer, was on vacation.

Additionally, Playbill Online reports that Stephen will be part of Children and Art, a benefit performance in honor of the 75th birthday of composer Stephen Sondheim. The concert takes place at the New Amsterdam Theatre on March 21. For more information, see www.sondheim75.com

1/10/2005: Stephen Leaving Phantom Tour

Stephen will be leaving the Phantom tour on 1/30. However, he intends to return periodically to cover for vacationing cast members. If I receive any specific information as to when he will be back with the tour, I will be sure to post it.

2/16/2004: The Phantom of the Opera

Stephen is going on the road with the US Tour of The Phantom of the Opera. Stephen will be a Swing which means that he will be stepping up to the challenge of filling in for whichever male ensemble members are out. Lucky audiences may see him as either Raoul or The Phantom since he will also be understudying both roles. The tour is in Austin,TX through the end of Feb. and then it will be moving on to Stephen's hometown of Chicago for a 2 month run.

As reported on Playbill.com, Harmony has been cancelled due to lack of financing.

The first scheduled week for Harmony performances in Philadelphia has been cancelled; the current date for the first scheduled performance is Dec. 2, 2003.

9/17/2003: Harmony

According to press releases, Stephen's next role will be that of Chopin in Barry Manilow's musical, Harmony. The show will embark on a pre-Broadway tryout at Philadelphia's Forrest Theatre from Nov. 25 - Jan 4. Hopefully, the show will continue on to Broadway later this season. Tickets are scheduled to go onsale on Oct. 12 through Telecharge.

Stephen Buntrock recently completed a 2 week run in this Sondheim revue at the Cape Playhouse in Dennis, MA. Costarring in the production were Erin Dilly, Peter Scolari, Michael Rupert and Diana Canova.

On May 18, Stephen Buntrock was one of the alumni prominently featured onstage in a special finale that followed the final Broadway performance of Les Misérables.

5/15/2003: Broadway.com Audience Award Nomination

Stephen was nominated for Broadway.com's Audience Awards in the category "Favorite Replacement- Male". Voting ended on May 29... and as they say, it is an honor just to be nominated. :)

5/4/2003: Showcase

On May 2, Mr. Buntrock joined Debbie Gravitte, Alix Korey, Anne Runolfsson and Kevin Bailey in a showcase of the revue Listen to My Heart: The Songs of David Friedman. A full production of this revue has been announced to play NY in the fall; however, it is too soon to say if it will feature the same cast as the workshop.

It was announced this week that the revival of Oklahoma! is scheduled to close on Feb. 23, 2003.

1/29/2003: Oklahoma! reviewed again

The press was invited back this week to review Oklahoma! with its new leading cast, including Mr. Buntrock who has been playing the lead role of Curly since Nov. 2002. Reviews have appeared on Broadway.com, the New York Post the New York Daily News, curtainup.com theatermania.com, and in the Associated Press.

10/11/2002: TV Appearance/ Sound Clip

Stephen Buntrock performed the role of Curly in Oklahoma for the first time on Tuesday 9/24/02. He continued playing Curly throughout the week ending 9/29/02, for a total of 8 performances in the role.

9/16/2002: Jefferson Award Nomination

The 2002 Joseph Jefferson Award nominations for excellence in Chicago theatre were announced today. Congrats to Stephen on his 3rd Jeff nomination! And congrats to the entire cast and crew of Miss Saigon on their 8 nominations:

7/14/2002: Broadway in Bryant Park Appearance

On Thurs. July 11, Stephen Buntrock sang the role of Curly as part of the Broadway in Bryant Park summer concert series. That afternoon's performance included performers from Oklahoma!, Les Mis and The Phantom of the Opera.

5/31/2002: TV Appearance- Tony Awards
-
Catch the cast of Oklahoma! performing "The Farmer and the Cowman" on the Tony Awards this Sunday evening June 2 on CBS. The cast is also supposed to be part of a musical tribute to Richard Rodgers.

Also best of wishes to Oklahoma! on its 7 Tony nominations: Best Revival of a Musical, Best Actor (Patrick Wilson), Best Featured Actor (Shuler Hensley), Best Featured Actress (Andrea Martin), Best Direction of a Musical (Trevor Nunn), Best Choreography (Susan Stroman) and Best Lighting Design (David Hersey). The CBS portion of the Tony Awards airs from 9-11 pm; the 8pm-9pm portion, featuring the technical awards, will be on PBS. Check your local listings for more details.

Starting Saturday Feb. 23, you can catch Stephen Buntrock in the cast of the new Broadway revival of Oklahoma! Stephen will be in the ensemble as well as understudying the lead role of Curly.

According to the official site of the show's composer, Neil Berg, Mr. Buntrock sang the role of Miles Hendon in a Radio City Music Hall reading of the musical The Prince and the Pauper on June 25 and 26.

8/7/2001: Miss Saigon Opens

The Lincolnshire, IL production of Miss Saigon opens tomorrow evening! Congrats to the entire cast and production team for putting together such a great production, and best wishes for a successful run!

5/12/2001: Buntrock to Appear in Miss Saigon

The webmaster is positively thrilled to announce that Stephen Buntrock's next role will be that of Chris in Miss Saigon at the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire which is located in in suburban Chicago. This production runs from Aug. 1 to Nov. 4. Broadway's loss will be Chicago's gain!

3/5/2001: Roosevelt Field Mall Appearance

Stephen Buntrock sang the role of Rochester at a Jane Eyre cast appearance at Long Island's Roosevelt Field Mall on Sunday March 4, 2001. By all accounts of those lucky enough to be in attendance, his performance of the duet "Secret Soul" with Jayne Paterson- who understudies the role of Jane- was a great success!

5/23/2000: Babes In Arms

Stephen Buntrock played Val LaMar in the Chicago Ovations! series presentation of the Rodgers and Hart musical Babes in Arms. The cast also featured Alice Ripley and George Wendt. The production had a successful four performance run at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago from May 18 to May 21. It received positive reviews in the major Chicago newspapers.

4/10/2000: Martin Guerre Closes

Stephen Buntrock recently finished his run starring as Arnaud du Thil in the U.S. tour of Martin Guerre. The tour played Minneapolis, Detroit, Washington D.C., Seattle and Los Angeles. This production was to have opened on Broadway but unfortunately, the decision was made to close it after the April 8 performances in L.A.
