Chrys Dimitry (wardtree@mbol.us) from Umpqua River Valley, Oregon:

Wow, great site!

I first saw Steve and Jamie in Joseph in Chicago. I was very impressed by their wonderful voices (boy, Jamie can really hit the high ones!). Both of them were always pleasant and gracious at the stage door, too.

At the time I worked for a major airline in Phoenix, AZ, so I was able to travel all over the country for free ... I must have seen Joseph 20 or 30 times. I was glad to be able to help Steve and Jamie out with airline guest passes when they moved to New York.

I was disappointed when Steve left the show, but was ecstatic to find him again in Les Mis! I went back to see it again and again .... and cried every time he "died" on the barricade! What a gentleman .. he remembered me from the Joseph days and always seemed pleased to see me at the stage door.

Alas, I no longer work for the airlines, so I don't know if I'll ever be able to see him again, but I am so glad to have found this site so that I can keep tabs on where he's going, and in what! Who knows, maybe he'll come back to the Pacific Northwest in another tour!

Thanks for this great site .. keep up the good work.

Chrys

I'm Eric's brother. Don't worry about him; I think he's stupid too. Speaking of which, at the "swimming" event he was discussing, Steve hit my other brother (not Eric) in the crotch with a volley ball. Steve, you can't hide forever...

Last night i saw phantom here in baltimore...i am totally obsessed with the show. So when i got to the theatre and heard that the understudy was playing the role of the phantom that evening i was a little worried...hopefully this stephen could do the role justice. He sure did!!! Mr. Buntrock has a truly sensational voice, and made the phantom his own last evening...congrats!!!

S.Campbell (s.ridley@chaankindustries.zzn.com) from GA:

After over a year of anticipation at seeing the show again and a five hour plane flight to Salt Lake City, my first thought upon seeing the notice board listing an understudy I'd never heard of as The Phantom was, 'Oh, crud!'
But we took our seats and waited for the show to start. I was bracing myself for the worst at that first line when Mr. Buntrock's lovely tenor comes over the sound system. Needless to say, I waited with considerably less terror for the real action to begin.... I'll spare all of the details, but let me just say that it was one of the best performances I've seen. The almost childlike confusion and naivete made for a wonderfully unique and heartwrenching interpretation of the character, and Mr. Buntrock's wonderful voice matched that very well. (I later had the chance had the chance to see the show again with Gary Mauer and was rather shocked. He's one of my favorite Raoul's and I'm sure he's a wonderful person but unless we caught him on three off nights in a row, he doesn't seem to have the emotional range to effectively convey the character. His Music of the Night frightens me.) If Mr. Buntrock ever checks these boards, I would just like to say thank you for making my trip even better...

Hello Stephen!
Don't know if you'll remember me-- but we met on the Antietam filmshoot. I saw you in Detroit in Martin Guerre and hoped to get to NY for Oklahoma but didn't make it (had to watch you on the TV instead).
Anyway, break a leg and maybe we'll catch you on stage (or in Maryland) one of these days.

Yeah, I'm signing again. Saw some of the Miss Saigon cast members recently (Emy and Nikkieli have been working in DC in Mamma Mia and Crowns, respectively). Hope Buntrock will still be with Phantom in August when it comes to Baltimore. The news about Harmony was very disappointing, but at least he is working again.

Steve,
Wow -- I can't believe it's you! Remember me? I served as your faithful real estate agent back in Apr/May 2002! I came across your site by accident -- I was looking for info on a friend -- Robert Gallagher (he was in Les Mis with you, right?). Congrats on all your success! And please give my regards to Erin as well! Let me know the next time you take the Broadway stage -- I'd love to catch up with you again! Bravo!

I used to work with him at Six Flags and was able to see him develop as a performer and singer while working with him again at Marriott Lincolnshire. I knew by the time he did Sweeney Todd there that he was meant for great things. His Anthony Hope is still my favorite. All the best to you Steve, you deserve it!!

Rob Perry:

I've been fortunate to work for a major airline and have traveled as much as he has for Joseph, Martin, et al. My wife is so passionate that she's known as "the screamer" during curtain calls. I was fortunate to see him from junior high school through to what he's doing today. After a while of not seeing him, I was amazed at how GOOD he had gotten. I may have been more disappointed than he when he didn't get to open in "Martin." He obviously understands the industry better than I do. We're still waiting for his "big break" but he has made a community proud. His humble and generous demeanor has made him bigger than many of the "popular people" that used to give him grief. With love and pride. Norm

Great site! Stephen is such an amazing talent. I live in LA and did not get around to seeing Stephen as Curly in NY but I did manage to see him in Jane Eyre and Martin Guerre and he was wonderful. I can't wait to see what's next for him. My personal wish is to see him in The Phantom of the Opera. He would be awesome (just in case Cameron is reading this board).
