Five years old, in my grandparents' Cape May, New Jersey cottage, I heard Charles Trenet's "l'Áme des Poètes". Without understanding a single word, I was completely mesmerized. My affinity for French language and song lured me to live in Paris after college. My first CD, Souvenirs de Paris, is nearly all French, as was my cabaret show. After a performance in 2001, when I told a fellow singer that I wanted to add more English for my American audiences, he insisted I learn Legrand's "You Must Believe in Spring". I did, and I loved Legrand and his collaborations with American lyricists so much, I couldn't stop. Tom, who wrote the brilliant arrangements, and Nancy share my enthusiasm. I hope you enjoy this tribute to the genius of Legrand.
