Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of knowing my Auntie Laurie personally. However, I feel her spiritually wherever I go and think of her always. I can feel her love when I listen to my mom's stories about her and when I read about the lives she's touched on this website. I'm so thankful for this site and others like it because they make sure her memory never fades. I love her very much and she is missed.

I miss you beyond words, dear sis. You would be so very proud of Julian, Brett, Evan and Dolly - your legacy runs deeply within them, and all of your beloveds, every day xxoo

I met Laurie when she was about 19-20 and when we were both doing the talent show circuit in NY. We used to hang out every week at a great spot on the corner of 31st and Third called the "Good Times." At that time it was mostly comedians and I was the male singer most of the time and Laurie was the gal of course. We both rehearsed with Marc Malamed who went on to a great career of his own and was the house pianist most of the time. Laurie could belt out a song and always blew the crowd away with "New York, New York." We even got a few free drinks from Rico the owner which was the extent of our pay at that time.The three of us used to do many of the clubs together as Marc played for both of us and we both rehearsed with him in his West side apt.Laurie was this raw natural talent who at such a young age moved people and we knew that greater things were on the horizon for her.I got drawn into the business world and didn't pursue my passion but followed Laurie's rise. I was at her first solo nightclub show and went to see her when she appeared at the "Ballroom" and when she was on Broadway including Annie. She was innocent, sweet and emotional and always wanted to do her best even when she wasn't getting paid. And that emotion certainly came out in her performances and brought her to stardom. I often think about those early days with her and Marc and am glad I was part of the early magic and as you can see so many years later still has it's effect. I remember vividly as we sat in the corner of the Good Times cheering each other on and hoping an agent would come in and discover us as did all the acts.
Laurie was one of the special ones in many ways and although we lost touch I am still touched today when I hear her sing and think about how lucky I was to have known her and the world is lucky to be able to hear her forever.

It is a strange occurrence, when you find yourself shedding tears, for someone you have never met... who's gift has touched you for many years... I have CD's by Laurie... never saw her on stage, but grew up with her in "Joseph"... The loss of a great gift...

omg! it's a long story how i got to laurie's website tonight, but let's just say it was meant to be!
and her birthday! i've got chills...
generally, it's very hard for me to think of my friend without feeling huge sadness at her inaccessibility to me; but still, i think of her -- and her awesome family -- often. and i always think "i've got to get in touch with claudia and jane", and then what do i do???? Not get in touch!
but i know we're always connected on some level, cause that's why i was led to this site tonight. [and, fyi, i called laurie's apt the day she passed after not talking to her for a long time. ] things like that -- and this -- make me feel happy that our friendship has always gone beyond this transient life.

Laurie Beechman was my aunt and I wish that I could have had the great pleasure of getting to know her. It gives me pride to have a connection to such an inspirational person who has touched so many people. I am able to experience and appreciate what a great person she was through reading this sign in book and reading about all the people she has touched. She is missed dearly

Laurie Beechman was my aunt, and I had the pleasure of loving her for the first 8 years of my life in human form, and forever spiritually. I thank this website and the contributors everyday. It is truly special to have her memory live on and I just wanted to say thank you on this special day of remembrance, March 8.

All my love every minute of every day

I first learned of Laurie Beechman when I watched an ice skater perform to "Climb Every Mountain." I was absolutely enchanted--had to find the album, then learned of Laurie's career and battle with ovarian cancer. I'm giving the album to my cousin who is also a courageous warrior against this disease. God bless you all for sharing the gift of her life and Laurie for sharing her gift of music. I shall walk for the cure and wear teal in honor of them both!

I was Priveledged to have had Laurie record my song "After The Fall" she was a wonderful singer and I regret never having met her.

I did the first national tour of Cats with laurie. We were very close..she had the greatest smile and loved drama as well..a true thespian. She blew the audience away every night with Memory. She and I did some crazy stunts together..and laughed for hours in our Boston apartments. She had the "star" dressing room in the Shubert and it was painted this awful purple for Liz Taylor who had just been there...it was a color ready to make anyone puke. We cracked up. I blew my voice out and she took me to the scariest doctor in NYC for drops...if I couldda howled I would have. I felt like the office was from WWII} Her last night in Boston, she walked out on the stage after her final performance and walked the stage...staring out at the house...I said " what are you doing?" I am sure I was ready for our ususal after work cocktail...she said "hang on...I just want to say goodbye." She was the best. I cried when I heard she had passed but will always remember her as the crazy, fun awesome person she was.

Tonight, I introduced someone to Laurie who had never heard of her. We watched many clips on You Tube and he was blown away--couldn't believe what he had missed.

Heard you perform at Borders Bookstore in the former World Trade Center - had a way too long lunch hour - refused to leave till I had heard every song you sang. I bought your album and over 10 years later listen to it over and over.

Music transcends it all. Thank you.

I saw Laurie Beechman when she was first coming up at a small club in NY. I remember her entrance as well as her amazing voice. I saw her in what seemed to be a private moment of preparation before her entrance from the back of the room to the stage. I remember thinking that she really wanted to give this her all, and of course, she certainly did. I became an instant fan of her huge talent and the humility she showed me, without realizing it. After just a few bars, it was clear that she would be a star. I'm so happy to have heard her sing and witnessed her deep desire to give nothing but her all even in that small club, whatever it's name was. God blessed her and us at the same time. I'm so happy a theater is named after her. How appropriate.

I have seen Cats 10 times, 7 on Broadway, and nothing moved me more than Laurie's performance of "Memory". I was also fortunate enough to have seen her in a fantastic cabaret act at the Rainbow and Stars....to date, the best cabaret act I've ever seen.

I will never forget the first time I saw Lauie in Joseph. I fell in love with her voice and the show. She inspired me then and still does now.
